Holiday gift nobody wants – flu season is here (still time to get vaccinated before the peak hits)

The swine flu is back.

The strain of influenza that struck in spring 2009 and quickly became a global phenomenon is spreading widely around the United States again, according to national and local reports on this year’s flu season.

Last week, the Bay Area saw its first spike in patients reporting flu-like symptoms – fevers, body aches and general lethargy – signaling the annual season had begun. Of the cases that are being tested, the great majority are turning out to be the 2009 strain.
