Hospital chaplains see, hear it all

“For Gomez and the scores of other men and women in Houston’s hospital chaplaincy corps, such moments are both the most gratifying and dreaded. As workers in one of the nation’s busiest health care centers — Houston boasts at least 80 hospitals, 21 of them in the world-famous Texas Medical Center — they are charged with comforting not only patients and their families but nurses, doctors and even fellow chaplains.

“We believe that every patient we treat is a person of sacred worth and value,” said Methodist Hospital CEO Dr. Marc Boom, who noted that his seven-hospital system’s chaplains and volunteers made 58,000 patient visits in a recent three-month period.” More @ Express News.
